Douglas Adams, So Long and Thanks

764px-douglas_adams_sign_from_hh_cover.jpgDouglas Noel Adams was born on March 11, 1952 in Cambridge, England. He had one sister, Susan. He received his BA and then his MA from Cambridge University in the early 1970s. He married Jane Balson in 1991; they had one daughter, Polly Jane Rocket Adams.

Douglas Adams is best known for his Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy which started out as a radio drama. It was later published in book form and was the first in a series of 5 books. The series was also translated into a very successful television program; in 2005 it was made into a motion picture. Before Hitchhiker’s Guide, Adams wrote for Monty Python and Doctor Who. He even appeared in a few episodes of Monty Python.  Douglas Adams wrote over 15 novels in his relatively short career.

Douglas Adams died suddenly in Santa Barbara, California on May 11, 2001. On May 25th, fans celebrate his life on towel day.
