The winner of the 2008 Scotiabank Giller Prize will be announced in an hour-long television special on Canada’s Bravo network tomorrow night. The program will air at 9pm and will be hosted by Canada AM’s Seamus O’Regan; at that time the 5 nominees will find out which one of them will take home the prize. The program will highlight each book and author before the winning book is announced.

The Giller Prize has become one of the most prestigious literary awards in Canada. It was founded by Jack Rabinovitch in 1994 in honour of his late wife Doris Giller.

Last year’s winner was Late Nights on Air by Elizabeth Hay.

This year’s nominees, chosen by Margaret Atwood, Bob Rae, and Colm Toibin are:

Through Black Spruce by Joseph Boyden, published by Viking Canada

Barnacle Love by Anthony Da Sa, published by Doubleday Canada

Good To a Fault by Marina Endicott, published by Freehand Books

Cockroach by Rawi Hage, published by House of Anansi

The Boys in the Trees by Mary Swan, published by Henry Holt
